What is a Doula?
A doula is a professional who is specifically trained in labor and childbirth support. Your doula is there alongside your doctor and nurses to help ensure your emotional and physical needs are being met. It’s just as important to understand what a doula is not. Doulas don’t replace the ob-gyn, nurses, and other trained health care professionals who care for you in the hospital. And doulas usually do not express their own opinions—instead, they act with your values, wishes, and best interests in mind.

Benefits of a Doula!
Think of a doula as a resource you and your partner can rely on throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and beyond. A doula can provide physical, emotional, and informational support in many ways. You’ve heard “it takes a village” to raise a child. In many ways, that’s true of labor and birth as well. You can have a team of people to support you on this journey, and a birth doula can absolutely be one of them. Doulas understand that racism, bias, and discrimination have blocked many people's access to health care. So, we help clients navigate a medical system in which their needs are often ignored or neglected.
Can a Doula deliver a baby? No.
A doula can provide support and advocacy during birth. Only a medical professional can provide treatment or deliver your baby.
Will my Doula work with my Midwife, or OBGYN?
Yes, your doula is a part of your team, your doula can meet them before delivery, or at delivery. It is important to let your medical team know you have a doula that will be a part of your birthing team. Everyone has assigned roles, and as long as those are followed and the priority is the birthing person and baby all should go smoothly.
Hey New Friend
I’m Justine Reina, your new friend, your cheerleader, your support, and your added strength from your Baby Bump, Beyond Birth journey. You’ll find me filling many roles as a wife, mother of 3, early childhood enthusiast, and dedicated doula that loves photographing cherished moments.
Some say a doula is a luxury, however for many it’s a necessity! I became a doula because I realized how many women/birthing persons are without support or a village to help them through what could be the most beautiful yet scariest time of their life. Before fully stepping into the role of a doula my experience began back in 2014 when I attended a natural hospital birth of my friend. There was so much power when we locked eyes as she pushed through the pain to birth her baby girl. From there I have attended preterm births that resulted in NICU stay the youngest being a baby born at 26 weeks, I have attended C-section births including my own, and have been a support throughout the pregnancy up to the delivery point as some choose to have that moment as an intimate time between them and their partner.
I am excited to get to know you more, provide support, guidance, and empower you to advocate for what you desire through your pregnancy, delivery, and beyond birth.
Are you ready to create the birthing experience you envisioned, while adding modifications that align with your wants, needs and wishes?
